Good News!
Joining is free, and since we do need (minimal) funds to function, we invite your donations. For the moment these funds will go towards our expenses but within months we hope to include other worthy local causes and give you options for where to assign your donation.
Generosity, abundance, grateful giving… these are the qualities we embrace. The Time Bank is free, and we invite you to freely give, so we can continue to contribute. Click Here to Join Now
Southern Oregon Time Bank
At its simplest level, Time banking is about spending an hour doing something you enjoy for somebody in your community and, then at some point, having someone else spend an hour doing something for you. Your work hour is “deposited” into the Time Bank as a Time Hour. You use your Time Hour to spend on what someone else does for you. Our Time Bank website lists what members would like to do for each other. You can book services online or call a member directly.
A Community of Giving and Receiving
Time Banking enables local individuals to freely help each other out, one-on-one or with group projects, without using money (which seems to be in diminishing supply). This empowers individuals to give their gifts freely and learn how to receive graciously. Plus, it rebuilds neighborhood networks and strengthens our communities.
Time Banking can be as simple as a group of moms getting together to share carpooling kids to activities. It can also include services like creating brochures, health coaching, landscaping, grocery shopping, taking care of elderly parents, walking dogs, helping out with homework, sailing, haircuts, etc. The scope of cool services people share in our Time Bank depends entirely on what people offer and what our group or community needs. We figure that out together.
Our Time Bank is starting small and adding services as we go along and more people join. Check out the list of Offers & Requests in the top menu for a current list.
How Do One-on-One Exchanges Take Place?
Let’s say you need someone to help out in the garden for two hours. Find this service offered on our website and email the member offering it. You agree when your Time Bank friend can help with your garden, they do, you record the transaction on-line when it is completed. They get a credit for two Time Dollars, you spend two Time Dollars from your account.
Likewise, you will receive an email request from a member for a service you have listed. You will figure out what to do when, complete the task, and be credited for the time, while your “customer” will have the same number of hours removed from their account.
What’s immediately obvious and cool about this? No middle man.
